The purpose of this alertl is to bring to your attention the fact that there have been two recent home break-ins in our neighboring community of Waterford. In each case the homeowner was not at home.
In the first case, which took place in the middle of March, entry was gained through a rear window, and electronics equipment was witnessed being carried out through the front door. The suspect in this case was described as being a white male, age 30-35, 5'6" to 5'7" tall with fair hair.
In the second case, which took place in early April, access was gained through a sliding glass door which was forced open despite the presence of a security bar on the door. The only lead the police have is the sighting in the neighborhood of a black male wearing a woolen cap and driving a teal colored car.
The police do not believe these crimes were committed by anyone residing in Waterford or the Riva area.
The police informed the Board that a common M.O. Being employed these days is for burglars to brazenly knock on front doors during daylight hours to ascertain if anyone is home, prepared with some excuse if the door is answered. If it isn't, they look for an easy point of entry. In one case, a woman who answered the door was told by the person that he was looking for a friend, but she became suspicious when she noticed the individual had backed his car into her driveway.
The police also wanted to remind everyone that they should keep their cars locked even when parked in their driveways.
The police post advisories at a publicly accessible website. The URL to that website is provided below. It is also possible for members of the community to subscribe to e-mail and/or mobile phone notifications by establishing an account at the website. This service is free to all. The site also contains contact information for the county police's Southern District Office located in Edgewater.

Although peaceful, our community is not immune to crime. The Board encourages all Annapolis Landing residents to take basic precautions, and to be on the lookout for, and report, any suspicious activity to the police. We also encourage residents to keep an eye on their neighbor's properties. Vigilance is the most effective deterrent against crime.
As always, suggestions on how we can make our community safer are always welcome.
